Mountain Top Wedding was written for, and first performed at, the wedding of a dear friend. The bride requested a piece that would be lyrical and romantic rather than marching and ceremonial. A violin solo represents the feminine voice, a clarinet solo the masculine voice, then the two combine with the tune of the familiar wedding processional from Lohengrin forming a cantus firmus in the bass. |
